ATLANTA — Libertarian presidential candidate Chase Oliver anticipates that voters in Fancy Farm, Ky., worry about the same thing as voters he’s met while touring 50 states:
How will they afford ever-increasing costs for food, housing, cars … everything?
“When the government prints trillions of dollars out of thin air, it devalues the dollar that is in your wallet,” says Oliver, 38. “That devalues the dollar that you take to the grocery store to fill up the grocery cart, the dollars that you use to pay your rent, the dollars that you use to run your business. And it’s time for that to stop.”
The tiny village of Fancy Farm will swell to at least 30 times its population on Saturday, Aug. 3, for the 144th annual St. Jerome Family Farm Picnic. The Fancy Farm Picnic once held the Guinness World Record for the largest one-day picnic and barbecue.
Oliver is coming to the rural village in the southwestern tip of Kentucky for the political forum, Kentucky’s answer to the Iowa Soapbox. Oliver was the first third party presidential candidate to speak at the Iowa Soapbox last year, and will be the first to speak at Fancy Farm.
Fancy Farm kicks off the campaign season as the place to see and be seen for Kentucky politicians and sometimes national figures. Democrats Lloyd Bentsen and Al Gore attended when they ran for vice president, and George Wallace visited after his independent run for president. Other national candidates are expected to attend.
Chase Oliver will address the picnic attendees, sharing his vision for America and discussing key issues. He offers voters an alternative choice in the upcoming presidential election, focusing on principles of individual liberty, limited government, and economic freedom.
